Amore

The Night Trembles

On 28 December 1908, the most devastating earthquake ever recorded in Europe razed Messina and Reggio Calabria to the ground. Nadia Terranova draws on the history of the Strait — the mythical place at the heart of her writing — to tell the story of a girl and a boy to whom a collective tragedy takes everything away, yet unexpectedly grants them a chance: to build, from the ruins, a life that may be imperfect but closer to the idea of love they have always imagined. Now alone, they can only wander helplessly among the ruins, among the other survivors, until fate makes them meet: for just a few moments, yet so intense they remain indelible. In a primordial, pre-conscious way, the two will be forever bound.
