The plot

Speed in the soul — whether on skis or behind the wheel of racing cars — matters little in what form it takes. It is essential to life. With 13 World Cup victories, 33 podium finishes, and 3 World Championship medals (with Olympic medals remaining his Achilles’ heel), and at least until the rise of Dominik Paris, Kristian Ghedina was the strongest downhill skier Italy had ever produced since the legendary days of Zeno Colò. Even today, he still holds a unique place among the greats of alpine skiing. It is a story that reads like a novel: a life marked by the tragic loss of his mother when he was just fifteen, and a career divided in two by a serious car accident in 1991, in which he himself nearly lost his life. He has won and lost, fallen and risen again — always with a smile. “For me, the greatest victory is being who I am,” he says. Kristian Ghedina has been, and still is, a champion of the people — “pop” in the purest sense of the word, meaning popular and beloved. In a single word: say “Ghedo,” and you feel empathy. An example of what a true champion should be.
