On July 25, the 2020 Summer Festival “Nel cuore della Musica” will kick off with a grand tribute to Italian art and artists: Francesco Meli, Saimir Pirgu, Roberto Aronica, Fabio Armiliato, Barbara Frittoli, Eleonora Buratto, Luca Salsi, Leo Nucci, Daniela Barcellona, Michele Pertusi, and Katia Ricciarelli—for a total of 31 Italian artists.

This will be followed on July 31 by a world premiere of Mozart’s Requiem, conducted by Marco Armiliato and featuring Vittoria Yeo, Sonia Ganassi, Saimir Pirgu, and Alex Esposito. On Saturday, August 1, Anna Netrebko, Yusif Eyvazov, Daniela Barcellona, and Ambrogio Maestri will take the immense central stage of the Arena in what will be a true celebration of rebirth in the name of art.

On Friday, August 7, however, we begin to look ahead to the stellar 2021 edition, with an all-new Wagnerian gala in anticipation of Jonas Kaufmann’s debut and his promise to bring the great Leipzig composer back to the Arena stage—a true historical rarity. The Verdi and Puccini galas, on August 8 and 22, will feature the welcome returns to the podium of Daniel Oren and Andrea Battistoni, and among the singers, that of the great Argentine tenor Marcelo Alvarez. Among these prestigious evenings, on August 14, an important gala dedicated to Rossini—a true novelty—is scheduled, featuring soprano Lisette Oropesa, a highly regarded Rossini interpreter; the young South African tenor Levy Sekgapane; baritones Alessandro Corbelli and Marco Filippo Romano; bass Roberto Tagliavini; and Jader Bignamini conducting.

At the heart of the program, on August 13, a unique event is scheduled at the Arena: Antonio Vivaldi’s *The Four Seasons*, featuring the highly anticipated return of the young Venetian violinist Giovanni Andrea Zanon alongside the strings of the Arena Orchestra.

And on August 21, Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi will be presented in a semi-staged production—an opera never before performed at the Arena—with Leo Nucci in the title role. Then there are two performances featuring the iconic Plácido Domingo, a cornerstone of the Arena’s program: first, a show on August 28 that will see him as the undisputed star alongside the beautiful Spanish voice of Saioa Hernández, joined by Saimir Pirgu; and then, on the closing night of August 29, with international diva Sonya Yoncheva and Italian tenor Vittorio Grigolo.
