Waiting for the Opera - l'Opera in mostra

Verona’s prestigious Palazzo della Gran Guardia hosts an exhibition that makes opera at the Arena di Verona even more magic and exciting. With a corpus of over 140 works from the Fondazione Arena di Verona Historical Archives, Waiting for the Opera – L’Opera in mostra reveals the Arena via its Archives, documenting the story of the Arena Opera Festival from its birth in 1913 to the present day.

Proposed by the Fondazione Arena di Verona as a complement to the operatic experience, the exhibition shows sketches, costumes, costume designs, period photographs, audio and video recordings, exhibited in five thematic sections, one for each of the operas on this year’s Arena di Verona Opera Festival program: Aida - Tosca - Il Trovatore - La Traviata - Carmen.

Located in Verona’s main square, just a short walk from its magnificent Roman Amphitheater—which every summer transforms into the world’s largest open-air opera theater—the exhibition celebrates the Arena Opera Festival through the work of great performers, renowned directors, high-profile set designers, and award-winning costume designers: from Maria Callas to Franco Zeffirelli, from Pino Casarini to Gabriella Pescucci. A must-see for everyone visiting Verona to attend the Opera Festival, but also for those who wish to discover a world of music, colors, designed spaces, fabrics, acting, lighting, and artists.

Admission to the exhibition is included in every ticket/carnet for the 2019 Arena di Verona Opera Festival
