Arena Casarini
The Arena Casarini offers a high-impact space, ideal for meetings and congresses, cocktails, banquets and get-togethers in the heart of Verona.
After the restoration of its precious frescoes, the Arena Casarini has been transformed into an evocative location capable of hosting up to 180 people, in a veritable “small theatre” entirely frescoed with lively circus scenes.
The room is dedicated to Veronese painter Pino Casarini, one of the most important scenographers of the last century. His works enhance the space with circus allegories which lend it inestimable artistic value.
The room is dedicated to Veronese painter Pino Casarini. The recent renovation works have brought to light magnificent frescoes by one of the most important set designers of the last century.
His works enhance the meeting room with lively circus allegories, lending the room inestimable artistic value. Large areas of wall space contain scenes representing life which are full of movement, alternating with covered stages, where the curtain is lifted to show a glimpse of the decorated wagons of the circus. Acrobats, jugglers, tightrope walkers, contortionists, clowns, dancers and lion tamers animate the scene, alongside horses, dogs, monkeys, a bear, an elephant, a giraffe and a camel: the protagonists of a lively tumult of colours and joy.
Pino Casarini, born in Verona in 1897, participated in the Biennale di Venezia multiple times and received numerous awards and recognitions, including an award for painting from the Royal Academy of Italy.
In 1959 he was called on by the then-owner of the Due Torri Hotel, Enrico Wallner, who wished to transform the palazzo into a luxury hotel, regaining the splendour of centuries past, when luminaries such as Goethe and Mozart stayed there. An eclectic artist who was already highly successful at the time, Casarini distinguished himself in the post-war period as a painter, fresco artist, stained glass artist and sculptor for churches and public buildings. His skilled hands also created the scenery for the opera seasons at the Verona Arena, the cradle of Italian and international opera.
An enlightening detail helps understand the unusual structure of the work created at the Due Torri Hotel: the wall decoration is inspired by the scenery panels of a theatre performance.
It is a show which remained invisible for decades, until the recent restoration work performed by the Duetorrihotels Group, which involved knocking down some partition walls, returned it to the city of Verona and the world of art in all its splendour.
