Verona’s Valerio Catullo Airport has received the Airport Health Accreditation from ACI (Airports Council International). The certification recognizes the airport’s commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of passengers and staff in response to the COVID-19 crisis.

On 15 August, Catullo Airport – the first in Italy to do so, alongside Venice Airport, with which it forms a single airport system – introduced a swab testing service for passengers arriving from high-risk countries.

The airport of Verona obtains an important recognition for its commitment to fighting the spread of Covid-19. Programme evaluates the health measures and procedures introduced by airports following the COVID-19 pandemic, in accordance with the recommendations of the ICAO – Council Aviation Recovery Task Force and in line with EASA, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) Aviation Health Safety Protocol and the ACI Europe guidelines.

An integral part of ACI’s assessment was the cleaning and disinfection of airport premises, the maintenance of social distancing, the protective equipment provided to staff, and communication with passengers.
Since the start of the emergency, Catullo has set up a dedicated task force, which has focused on the safety of passengers and staff through measures that have been examined and positively assessed by ACI. These include the organisation of spaces to ensure social distancing, increased cleaning and disinfection of areas, body temperature checks using thermal scanners, the distribution of hand sanitiser within the terminal, a reorganisation of the check-in and boarding areas to ensure both passenger distancing and staff protection, the provision of personal protective equipment to airport staff, signage for internal routes that have been partially modified, supplemented by frequent audio announcements and constant updates on the airport’s website.
