Take a journey into the past, discovering the origins of the Carnival of Venice and its symbol, the mask. The masks of the most famous Carnival in the world are made in Verona , home to one of the oldest Carnivals in Italy, even more ancient than Venice. 

During this workshop you will have the opportunity to visit the first mask workshop in Italy and to meet a real craftsman decorator who will briefly explain the history of Carnival masks. You will have the chance to witness the the manufacturing of a papier-maché mask and learn more about traditional decoration techniques.

La Fucina dei Miracoli creates metal and papier-mâché masks manufactured by expert artisans. The company was founded in 1975 by Vincenzo Della Croce, a brilliant stage actor and set designer from Verona. Over the years, it has become a recognized and respected name in the industry for its work of high artistic value and continuous research on innovative techniques and materials.

The workshop is divided into two sections:

Meeting with Vincenzo Della Croce, expert mask maker and stage actor, brilliant storyteller, who will tell the story of papier-maché and traditional masks
Creation of your own personalized papier-maché mask.

You may choose either to attend one or both. Participants will be offered a special discount on any purchase.

1. The history of mask and the carnival

  • Duration: 60 minutes

  • Languages: Italian (interpreter required)

  • Maximum number of participants: group of 15-20 people

  • Cost: 180 euro per group

2. Create your own mask

  • Duration: 60 minutes

  • Languages: Italian (interpreter required)

  • Maximum number of participants: 8 people

  • Cost: 36 euro per person

Description of the experience:

  • Introduction to the history of Venetian masks and their use in social occasions

  • Creation of the mask using papier-mâché, following the traditional craft method dating back to the 14th century

  • Description of techniques and materials used
