Morgan Freeman and the staff of Due Torri Hotel
A home away from home in Verona for the most famous celebrities, the doors of the Due Torri Hotel have always been open to those spending even just one night in the city. In the past, when it was the Palazzo dell’Aquila, the hotel welcomed many important guests, from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and today this tradition of uninterrupted hospitality continues, with Hollywood stars such as Morgan Freeman calling the hotel home.
A direct link between the Verona Arena and the hotel
Located a stone's throw from the Verona Arena, the cradle of Italian and international opera music, the Due Torri Hotel is an official agent for the Verona Arena Foundation, allowing guests prime access to show tickets and the best seats in the house.
Because of this partnership and the hotel's prestigious location, the Due Torri hosts many of the city's most important guests, especially those performing at this illustrious venue. This has included the queen of opera, Maria Callas, to whom a suite was dedicated, one of those most requested at the hotel. Recently, in 2018, the Arena hosted an Evening with Andrea Bocelli, broadcast live on Raiuno. The benefit concert, featuring over 400 artists in addition to the tenor himself, was attended by a whole host of international stars, such as the dancers Carla Fracci and Sergei Polunin, the soprano Aida Garifullina, and Hollywood legends Richard Gere and Morgan Freeman.
Morgan Freeman: charisma and modesty
Morgan Freeman was, in fact, one of the hotel's most memorable guests. Arriving by private plane together with Hollywood producer and agent Oscar Generale, Freeman left an indelible mark on the manager and staff. With his evident charisma, but above all modesty, he was a world away from the idea of the inaccessible celebrity, usually considered unapproachable.
The actor was more than happy to have his photo taken, posing with both guests and hotel employees, and didn't skimp on autographs. This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get a glimpse into the personality of Freeman, winner of an Oscar in 1990 and two Golden Globes, one of which was for Lifetime Achievement. His blockbuster films include Driving Miss Daisy, Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves, Seven with Brad Pitt and Kevin Spacey, Outbreak, The Shawshank Redemption, Bruce Almighty, Million Dollar Baby, Batman, Invictus and The Dark Knight.
